Mount Hopkins: April 9, 1998

  • The site.
  • The dummy mirror sits on the transport rig below the summit.
  • It is a steep mountain!
  • The bottom of the box.
  • The dummy's view of the Ridge.
  • The transport rig and tractor.
  • The custom trailer's license plate. This would stand up in any court in the land...
  • J.T. Williams and Bill Omann wait for the arrival of the Sierrita Mining and Ranching loader.
  • Here comes the loader with its push-bar mounted. The loader will be used on the steepest sections of the road.
  • Bill Omann at the controls of the trailer's counterweight and outrigger wheels.
  • "She'll be comin' 'round the mountain..."
  • "...when she comes."
  • The rig rounds the turn below the MMT (large image).
  • The parade approaches.
  • Approaching the hairpin.
  • Into the hairpin.
  • Mid-way through.
  • Next to the Common Building.
  • The pusher is engaged.
  • Up the hill above the Common Building.
  • On the land bridge.
  • Approaching the heated section of road.
  • The final push.
  • The big picture.
  • No one was breathing.
  • Success!
  • Wear and tear on the pusher.
  • The box with the MMT in the background.
  • Another perspective.
  • The loader.
  • The loader backs down the hill as the transport rig starts its descent.
  • The road.
  • On the road again.
