MMTO Scheduler Batch Target CSV Uploading

This page describes how to upload a bulk list of catalog targets to the MMTO Scheduler using the CSV format. The values you pass in for each catalog target must be valid values as described in the appropriate instrument information pages found on the MMTO’s website. We recommend using the standard catalog target input form for adding your targets, but there may be times when you have a large number of targets in a spreadsheet that you need to add and doing so individually would be challenging. For those extreme cases, you can use the batch CSV uploader as described here. It is important that you validate your input before submitting it because the batch uploader might not catch all invalid combinations that the web forms would otherwise catch.

CSV Header

The header row is required in the CSV for the upload to work properly. There is an example CSV (and MS Excel) file linked at the bottom of this page that contains the required header (first row). Be sure to include this header in your CSV upload. Also note that not all target properties can be set through the upload. These properties that cannot be set include ‘id’, ‘instrumentid’, ‘iscomplete’, ‘locked’, ‘maskid’, ‘modified’, ‘reduced’, ‘disabled’.

objectid

This field is the name of your target. Do not use spaces or unusual characters (letters, numbers, dashes, and underscores are only allowed). The uploader may accept bogus characters, but it will probably bite you later if you use them.

observationtype

This can only be one of three possible values (string): longslit, imaging, or IFU

ra

Right ascension in hours:minutes:seconds HH:MM:SS.SSS format in J2000 (a text string).

dec

Declination in degrees:arcminutes:arcseconds +/-DD:MM:SS.SSS format in J2000 (a text string)

pa

Position angle in decimal degrees (float).

priority

Your observing priority where 1=highest, 2=middle, 3=lowest (int).

magnitude

Visual magnitude in decimal (float).

slitwidth

grating

centralwavelength

This value varies depending on the select grating you input for this target. Also, if your target type is imaging, this should be set to blank. If not blank, then your value will be an integer as described below:
Grating = 270, then 5501 through 7838 Å
Grating = 600, then 5146 through 8783 Å
Grating = 1000, then:
4108 – 4683 Å
5181 – 7273 Å
7363 – 7967 Å
8153 – 8772 Å
8897 – 9279 Å

filter

For Binospec:

For MMIRS:

exposuretime

Number of seconds required for each exposure (int)

numberexposures

The number of exposures required for each visit of the target (int).

visits

Number of visits requested for this target (integer).
